Hope Blooms for a Brighter Tomorrow
In September 2023, Sydney, Australia saw the dawn of the Sustainable Futures Eco Festival. Drawing over 1,200 attendees, this event emerged from myriad discussions involving political figures, public servants, and environmentally-conscious citizens.
Guided by influential works like "You Matter More Than You Think: Quantum Social Change For A Thriving World" by esteemed social scientist Karen O'Brien and "Humanity's Moment: A Climate Scientists' Case for Hope" by poet scientist Joelle Gergis, civic leaders united multiple councils, pooling their resources and expertise.
The festival commenced with Council Mayors and the local MP inaugurating proceedings, spotlighting a special segment on the Psychology of Climate Change: From Fear to Optimism. In this interactive talk, the audience was taken on a brief exploration of the emotions elicited by the topic of climate change.
Furthermore, de-mystifying the basic scientific concepts underpinning the threats to the local community's ecosystem helped many audience members make the connection between their common values (eg, family, health, justice, etc) and taking proactive steps.
There's a flurry of ecological/sustainability projects in motion at a local government level - too many to list here. Whilst we understand the importance of alignment with state and federal initiatives, evidence shows that change does not need to flow top-down exclusively. It often flows bottom-up. The key message is to never underestimate the power of grassroots connections with a shared dream. Together we can create a better future.
Stay tuned for 2024 updates as we enhance leadership coaching services, broaden climate & sustainability initiatives, and strengthen global partnerships.
